The colours of Autumn (Осенние цвета)

I love this time of year. However it brings on a sense of melancholy too. Not in the traditional sense of sadness, but autumn is so beautiful yet so short.

If only the magnificent colours–gold shining from the leaves, blazing trails of red on each tree, the grass that is fighting to remain green before the eventual slip into brown, and the blueness of the sky–if only these could stay with us for just a little more.

Life is a cycle however. Autumn boldly announces the introduction of winter, very differently than how Spring lightly sings and dances its way into Summer.

I think that Russia’s poet Alexandr Pushkin had it right:

Унылая пора! Очей очарованье!
Приятна мне твоя прощальная краса —
Люблю я пышное природы увяданье,
В багрец и в золото одетые леса,
В их сенях ветра шум и свежее дыханье,
И мглой волнистою покрыты небеса,
И редкий солнца луч, и первые морозы,
И отдаленные седой зимы угрозы.
