USA Pastor Ron Baker is right about prayer, wrong about Russia

Ron Baker, the pastor of Russell Baptist Church in Green Cove Springs (Jacksonville, Florida, USA) said he plans to keep on praying at a school flagpole regardless of what his county (region) government dictates.

In an interview with the American Fox News network he said, “Did you ever think that in America you’d be in trouble for praying at the flag? It’s disturbing. I never thought I’d ever see that happen in America, maybe in North Korea or China or Russia – but not America.

Leaders of this county schools say the prayers are a violation of the USA Constitution.

We cannot change the USA leaders about prayer, after all the USA president has declined to attend the annual national days of prayer since he took office. However we can speak to defend Russia’s good name and the facts versus myths of faith in modern day Russia. So we sent the following letter to Pastor Baker:

Dear Pastor Baker,

Please understand that we support your efforts to pray at schools. The publication of this article is not meant to discourage you, but to remind Americans that perhaps some of your perceptions of Russia are outdated by at least 2 decades and should be changed to reflect reality.

It was an insensitive blow when you were quoted about restrictions on prayer as, “Maybe in North Korea or China or Russia – but not America.”

We’d like to beg to differ and respectfully point out why:

Which nation allows prayer in public schools?
USA-no
Russia-yes

Which nation promotes the instruction of religion & morality (by local church groups) in public schools?
USA-no
Russia-yes

While protecting separation of church and state, which nation has enshrined Christianity as the leading historic faith while also recognizing Islam, Judaism and Buddhism as historic faiths?
USA-no
Russia-yes

Which nation allows public schools to observe the traditional 40 day fast (no meat/no dairy products) prior to Easter?
USA-no
Russia-yes

Which nation allows public schools, public employees and government institutions to voluntarily celebrate Easter?
USA-no
Russia-yes

Which nation allows public schools  to observe the traditional 40 day fast (no meat/no dairy products) prior to Christmas?
USA-no
Russia-yes

Which nation allows public schools, public employees and government institutions to voluntarily celebrate Christmas?
USA-no
Russia-yes

Which nation uses public tax funds to advertise on media and in print AGAINST abortions?
USA-no
Russia-yes

In which nation would the government applaud and encourage Pastor Ron Baker to pray at the flagpole and promote faith and religious values?
USA-apparently not
Russia-yes

Yet, American Christians fall for the myth that someday Russia will be part of the “great whore” who attacks Israel at the “end times.”

Perhaps Americans should look in the mirror more often–that great whore analogy may be closer to home than they realize.

America is a great nation that has lost her way. We understand your plight–for 80 long and hard years, our leaders denied Russian citizens the right to worship and pray freely. We have paid that terrible price all too dearly with churches destroyed, the faithful imprisoned and religious leaders executed. However, God allowed the Russian church to experience the result of being faithful against the odds and so today Russian Christians pray, in freedom, for the rights of individual Christians to be returned to the citizens of America.

Respectfully,
