Obama’s Muslim advisors cancel meeting with Christian Patriarch

al Nashra the Beirut Arab news agency is reporting that White House Muslim Envoy Dalia Mogahed has convinced the White House to cancel a meeting with USA President Barack Obama and the Maronite Patriarch of Lebanon.

Unnamed sources told the news agency that the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt feared that an Obama meeting with Patriarch Beshara Rahi, the spiritual head of Lebanon’s Maronite Church, would send the wrong signal Iranian Muslims regarding support for Christians who remain in the Middle East under Muslim rule.

Dalia Mujahid (Mogahed), an Egyptian, is the highest adviser on Arab and Islamic Affairs in the State Department and to President Obama. The al Nashra report is read widely in the Middle East and also by the Lebanese Christian Diaspora in the United States and Canada.

Previous administrations of both parties have worked to protect the rights of the Christian minority in the Middle East. Complicating matters in the region the USA and Russia are at odds on how to deal with the Iranian nuclear threat.
