Pussywillow Sunday in Russia

Today is “Pussywillow” Sunday in the FSU. In most areas of the FSU palms are something not available locally so local residents use the pussywillow instead for celebration of Palm Sunday.

Today you would have found individuals and kiosks selling pussywillows on many street corners and certainly within walking distance of most churches.

Women cover their heads with scarfs and men generally wear long sleeve shirts. Revealing clothing is not acceptable in a Russian church.
