– Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed Federal Law On Amendments to Article 1.1 of the Federal Law On Days of Military Glory and Commemorative Dates in Russia, and Declaring Null and Void the Resolution of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Federation On Establishing a Day of Memory of the Victims of Nuclear Accidents and Disasters.

The Federal Law sets a new commemorative date in Russia: April 26 – Day of Participants in the Clean-up of Nuclear Accidents and Disasters and of Memory of their Victims.

The establishment of this new date will immortalize the memory of the victims of nuclear accidents and disasters and pay tribute to living participants in their clean-up.

– Members of Russia’s ruling United Russia party met with President Medvedev today to present their lists of candidates for the governorships of Kostroma and Smolensk regions.

Taking part in the meeting were Chairman of United Russia’s Supreme Council Boris Gryzlov, Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Sergei Neverov, Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Andrei Vorobyev, and First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Vyacheslav Volodin.

President Medvedev had accepted the resignation of Smolensk Region Governor Sergei Antufyev this past Friday, 20 April.
